1. Anderson .Paak feat. Jay Rock, “Lockdown.”- Anderson. Paak's easy-going, in-the-pocket funk is made for hazy summer days . This hushed, contemplative song speaks against a world where "Black lives are thrown away like paper towels." Take note: the superb Jay Rock verse is only included in the video, not in Spotify.

2. “Physical” by Dua Lipa - Between the new sounds that Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, and now Dua Lipa are currently serving listeners, it seems like the heavy synth and booming bass feel of the ’80s is back in full swing. We love that with “Physical,” Dua isn’t afraid to experiment with a mainstream pop sound while also rocking avant-garde, punchy-bright looks with her accompanying videos. This high-energy track just makes us want to dance and, apparently, so does Dua. —B.B.

3. “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga - After showing off her inimitable versatility in her Joanne and A Star Is Born times, Gaga brings her fans back to her glossy pop roots in "Stupid Love," the hopeless emotional and energetic lead track to her new album , Chromatica. As the multi-hyphenated artist revealed, producing the LP was a means of therapy for her debilitating pain, which explains the vivid, uplifting quality courtesy of Tchami and BloodPop. Yet fans will believe that listening helps as well; Gaga's musical resilience is desperately needed in unpredictable times.

4. “Circle the Drain” by Soccer Mommy - "Circle the Drain" sounds like what's going to be played in a teenager's room after a good date in a cult-classic high school movie in the early 2000s. With nearby Hilary Duff-esque approachability, Soccer Mommy outlines suicidal patterns in the middle of singing-along melodies and soft guitar strums, making a song as simple and approachable as it is cutely real.

5. “Stoned Again” by King Krule - In 2020, King Krule's growl is a welcome and expected staple, a rare time-tested signature that doesn't seem to lose its wear edge. "Stoned Again" takes Archy 's usual gruff and raises an octave to a snarled shout, and then to juxtapose it with these velvety soft opening lines: "Yeah, she's my favorite / My sweet and sour, my lemon honey."

6. “Silly Watch” by Lil Uzi Vert - For almost three years, Lil Uzi fans have been living off nothing but Instagram-fitting slideshows and random music samples that have almost always been left with no follow-up. But the fire of the bad-contract embargo eventually came from Everlasting Atake II, a document completely unreal enough to remain at the present moment.

7. “Juro Que” by Rosalía - Rosalia returns to her flamenco roots with this raw and mesmerizing track. While the Catalan singer received her big break abroad by experimenting with the Caribbean sounds of reggaeton, Rosalía is a flamenco singer at its core — and she shines as she strips off the frills of pop for a more bare-boned, operatic performance , much like "Juro Que." You don't have to speak Spanish to hear the pain and heartbreak that evokes Rosalía 's greatest instrument: her voice.

8. “Garden Song” by Phoebe Bridgers - In her first solo release since her acclaimed 2017 debut album, Stranger in the Alps , Bridgers has taken us into a dreamlike state with her trademark storytelling style and soft vocals as she sings about her hometown and frequent nightmares.
